Conakry, Guinea – An airport security officer and a passenger on his motorcycle were killed after they were struck and ingested into the engine of a TAP Air Portugal Airbus A320N that had just landed at Ahmed Sékou Touré International Airport (CKY) in the West African city of Conakry in Guinea.

According to reports by the local aviation authority, the incident happened Friday night after the aircraft touched down from Lisbon (LIS), Portugal. The plane’s right engine struck the motorcycle that was crossing the active runway at the same time. The driver, identified as an employee of the airport, and a passenger were both tragically killed, and the aircraft engine suffered severe damage from the impact.

Passengers and crew on the aircraft were unharmed by the impact, but the 1 and half-year-old A320-200neo was forced out of service by the incident resulting in the airline’s return flight being canceled.
