Staff from German leisure airlines Condor were shocked and saddened last month after it was announced cabin crew member and single mother to a young son, Michelle Märkisch, had died unexpectedly at only 31 years of age.

The obituary reads in English: “Way too soon and completely unexpected died my beautiful Mum, our beloved Daughter, and sister.” And under the airplane: “Your last flight goes into heaven.”

After nearly a decade with the airline, Michelle ‘s sudden death has left great sadness at the airline, according to her colleagues. The airline made this statement about her passing in an internal memo: “Dear Colleagues, today we have to tell you the sad news that our beloved colleague Michelle Märkisch has died.” The statement read. “Michelle started her journey with Condor in 2015 as Part of the cabin crew. On December 4th, she died completely unexpectedly. Our thoughts are with her family and friends. And we wish them nothing but the best during this heartbreaking time.”

What makes Michelle passing even more tragic, she was a single mother and the sole provider of a young son. To help support her child and funeral costs, friends have set up a PayPal Donation account for anyone wishing to offer assistance. “With this PayPal fundraising we want to try to help Michelle’s family during this hard time.” Michelle’s friends Katrin & Hannah wrote on the website. “We are thankful to anyone who would like to participate.” The pair hopes to raise €20,000 but is just over halfway there with only two days left in the campaign.
